Often, people neglect to realize that the purpose of the job interview is not just to get the job, but to discover whether or not your interests, talents, goals, and personality will fit with the company. Sometimes it is a perfect fit, sometimes it isn'. The purpose of the interview is to discover this.

Remembering this one key point will go far in making the interview a pleasant experience for you, the candidate.

Do Your Research

Do your own research on the company for which you are interviewing. Knowing as much as possible about the company's past performance and future plans can make your interview more interactive and could be just the leg up you need in a competitive job market. Before the interview review the company's web site and find out any other information you can about the company.

Prepare For The Interview

It is very important to be on time for the interview. On time means ten to fifteen minutes early. If need be, take some time to drive to the office ahead of time so you know exactly where you are going. Know the interviewer's name and use it during the interview.

Practice For The Interview

Take the time to practice for the interview. Prepare answers to common interview questions. This will help you to be relaxed and as calm as possible during the actual interview.

Second Interview Tips

  • Understand what the interview will entail. Often, second interviews take several hours, and the candidate will meet lots of different people from different departments.
  • Do more research and review questions and answers from the first interview
